    Lodge Planning Meeting

    Event Details: Lodge Planning Meeting

Although it is not even halfway through 2025, it is not too early to be thinking about who will become our Lodge Officers next year. I’d like to remind you that the usual practice of advancing Line officers (i.e., Worshipful Master, Senior Warden, Junior Warden, Senior Deacon and Junior Deacon) from one station to the next each year is not a requirement; these and all other Lodge offices are open for nomination and election in November of each year. This memo is addressed to any member who may be considering getting more involved with the operation of YOUR lodge. At the end of this memo is a special request for members we haven’t seen for a while.

Most social organizations are finding it difficult to recruit and retain new members these days. Freemasonry is no exception. It has been suggested that one factor contributing to this trend is that leaders are reluctant to make changes to the way that things have “always” been done. This is where we could benefit from some fresh ideas from leaders who are not limited by past history (operation within the constraints of the Grand Lodge Blue Book notwithstanding).

In hopes of addressing these concerns, I’m directing that we convene one or more casual (in person) meetings to explore what budding officer material we have in our lodge. For those of you who might not be interested in one of the offices in the Line progressing to the East, there are offices which do not have an automatic advancement, such as Stewards and Tiler. (While Secretary and Treasurer are nominated and elected yearly as are all other officers, these officers are typically Past Masters who will serve for a number of years.)

Finally, a comment for those of our Brothers who have not been at Lodge for a while: We have a special culture here in Coloma that exists largely because of what YOU have made it. We all have our priorities competing for our time, but Freemasonry is obviously important to you or you would not have expended the effort to progress through the degrees. Don’t let that investment of your time go to waste, and don’t let the Coloma Lodge culture fade.

Please consider what contributions of your time you would be willing to make to the future of Coloma Lodge.

    Fraternally,

    Phil Staub

    Worshipful Master
